Bheja Fry(2007):"It's fun to watch. You watch it once you would like to watch it again n again."7/24/2016 Ranjeet Thadani (Rajat Kapoor) is an influential person in the music industry at Mumbai.
He has a strange habit of inviting aspiring singer to his Friday night dinner parties with friends. He invites his latest Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak) for one Friday night dinner. Bharat Bhushan, a middle-aged IT clerk at office aspires to be a playback singer. Incidentally Ranjeet breaks his back that night and his wife (Sarika) leaves him. Ranjeet is in a helpless position. Bharat Bhushan offers to help him and then all hell broke loose. Vinay Pathak is absolutely fabulous as an idiotic singer. The beauty in his characterization is that he is unaware of his stupidity and keeps believing that he is doing the right job. But, in fact, he does lot of harm to others than any help rather. Rajat Kapoor fits the bill as the Ranjeet. Sarika has a limited role to play. Milind Soman is pretty good. Tom Alter is good in a cameo. This film is based on the French film Le Dîner de cons (The Dinner Game - 1998). Screenplay of the film is all right. The director Sagar succeeded in providing good comedy timing. It is extremely difficult to generate comedy when there is almost no story and most of the film location is confined to a house. This film is mostly driven by comical conversations. Direction of the film is pretty good. Dialogues are witty. Cinematography and music is passable. This film was made on a shoestring budget (probably half a crore). The producer should be appreciated for attempting to make a film with such a different storyline, though a borrowed one. The story of this film is mostly suited for stage plays. Vinay Pathak is the star of the show. Makers of the movie proved that a comedy flick can be produced without old matchbox jokes and stupid moves of comedians. Totally recommended.
