Purani Jeans (2014):"Friendship is like a pair of old jeans- the older it gets, the better it becomes.Purani Jeans will remind you of old friends."
Written and directed by debutante Tanushri Chattrji Bassu, Purani Jeans is an old wine in a new bottle that gets better as the movie progresses. The climax especially brings an unexpected twist. Samuel aka Sam (Aditya Seal) is a cool, young and ambitious guy, who has recently returned to his hometown to reunite with his old life and friends. He has a group of friends which includes his best friend, Sid (Tanuj Virwani). While Sam has a set future in mind, and suffers through his family problems, Sid aims to become a writer. Everything looks lovely until Nayantara (Izabelle), a smart beautiful girl comes to town. Both the guys fall for the girl and then starts their fight for love and survival. Who will Nayantara fall for? Will Sam be able to solve his family issues. Will Sid succeed in achieving his dream? For all these answers, you need to watch the film. The movie focuses on the growing up process and problems that every teenager faces through the path. The filmmaker very cleverly brings together elements like friendship, love, jealousy and joy in one. The movie will only connect to the youth of today, who face all these problems and yet go on to live their life. Aditya Seal is a newcomer, but acts brilliantly. He is best at what it does. Izabelle adds the necessary glamour to the movie. The film has a decent concept. The director and the film's story writer Tanushri Chattrji Bassu, clearly knows as to what she wanted in this youth drama and she delivers it without any fumble. Interestingly more than the real life mother-son relationship of Rati Agnihotri and Tanuj Virwani, it is the bond between Rati and Sam which is more endearing. Rati even tells her son not to hurt the feelings of his best friend Sam. Aditya Seal handles the emotional, tragic and romantic moments with ease. Tanuj Virwani has an ordinary screen presence and he struggles to act. We cannot compare the young cast with veterans like Sarika (Sam's mom), Rati Agnihotri and Rajit Kapur (Sam's step father), but they certainly lend depth to the film. All in all, this film is worth a watch once... all for the sake of friendship

Bommarillu (English: house of dolls) is one of the more well-written and innovative films to come out of Tollywood in recent years.
Bommarillu is the story of Sidhu's(Sidharth) struggle in dealing with a controlling father. When all the little details of his life are taken care of, he has nothing but a sense of emptiness left in him. When he meets this happy go-lucky girl (played to perfection by Genelia D'Souza) who does anything and everything she wishes without constraints, he gets inspired and loves her dearly. He comes to terms with his own life and the things he misses, mostly his individuality. The rest of the story is how he convinces his family, especially his father about his state d'affaire and wins her over. A beautiful film. This is one film which you can watch with your family and find everyone loving it. Siddarth's acting is great and Genelia is really amazing. She looks almost perfect. Her character (Hassini) is one of the most bubbliest characters I have seen for a long time in a cinema. Genelia will make you fall for her. Prakash raj as usual does his role with ease and poise playing the over-protective father. Background music is excellent and the songs especially Ippudo, eppudo is superb. Great work by Devi Sri Prasad. Bhaskar arrives with this film as a terrific talent that makes Telugu film industry proud. There is lot of freshness in the film. Director understands the nuances of filmmaking extremely well and applies them all with perfection for his debut film. Story of the film deals with the relationship that sours between a good father and a good son. Screenplay of the film is tight. Direction is exceptionally good. First half of the film is excellent. Second half is even better. The last 20 minutes of the film is extraordinary with perfect emotions. This film is so good that I don’t find any negative points. Enough of reading this and watch the film. Its a MUST SEE. Madaari(2016):"A social & political thriller film which presents the power of a motivated common man, who can go to extremes to get the much needed attention from the authorities."
Madaari means the person who travels around with a monkey and makes the monkey dance to his tunes. Nirmal (Irrfan Khan) takes up the role or Madaari and makes the entire law enforcement to dance to his tunes. Madaari is directed by Indian filmmaker Nishikant Kamat who previous projects include films like Rocky Handsome, Drishyam, and Mumbai Mera Jaan. Madaari may remind some of modern classics like A Wednesday (2008) and Law Abiding Citizen (2009). The story appears to revolve around the kidnapped son of the country’s Home Minster. Nishinkant Kamat once again shows us that he can craft a gripping Crime Drama without any Action. Although this one is not as good or thrilling as Drishyam, it sends a strong social message. Madaari is a film that is both entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The movie has something for everyone. A brilliant picture of reality. Irrfan Khan plays his character so naturally that one gets lost with him in his journey. Jimmy Shergill falls weak in front of Irrfan but plays his part nicely. Vishesh, the child actor, is a treat to watch - his acting is better than some actors' in the industry. The lack of a background score makes the two songs stand out. "Masoom Sa" is shot beautifully! Politics has always been a dirty game and Madaari exposes it from the inside-out. There are no surprises or twists and turns in this story, but the way it is told, and with a strong supporting cast, the movie is surely worth watching. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 famous dialogues of Madaari(2016): 1."Baaz chuje pe jhaptaa..udaa le gya. Kahani sachchi lagti hai hai lekin achchi nahi lagti. Baaj pe palatwar hua. Kahani sachchi nahi lagti hai lekin khuda kasam bahut achchi lagti hai." 2."Sarkaar corrupt nahi hai, corruption ke liye hi Sarkaar hai." 3."Tum Meri Duniyan Mujhse Chinoge, Main Tumhari Duniya Me Ghus Jaaonga.” 'Vaaranam Aayiram'(English: A thousand elephants) tells the story about the life journey of a son who is positively motivated by his father and how he goes through emotions like love, passion, success and failure and how he is driven to search for himself in this challenging world.
It is a biography of an ordinary man presented in extraordinary way by Gautam Vasudev Menon. It won many awards including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. The film was also a commercial success, eventually becoming the biggest hit in Suriya's career then. It's a Gautham Menon film, lot of ups and downs, twist and turns yet its totally different from all the other movies its a Masterpiece given by him. The film illustrates the theme of how a father often came across his son's life as a hero and inspiration. Suriya plays 2 type of characters,a father and a son.. This is the kind of movie that you don't mind watching again and again. The film begins with elderly Krishnan (Suriya) returning home after a haircut. Once he reaches home he vomits a profuse amounts of blood and is kept to bed rest. After the doctor checks him, he is reported dead after a few moments of grief with his wife Malini (Simran), daughter Shreya, and daughter-in-law Priya (Divya Spandana). This news is informed to his son Surya (Suriya) who is in Kashmir on a military mission traveling in a helicopter, to rescue a kidnapped journalist from terrorists . He begins to shed tears and starts to think about his memorable moments with his father and the story of how his parents loved each other during their college days. Krishnan is a student in the same college, Madras Christian College where Malini studies. They fall in love and get married. They soon have a son, Surya. He grows up as a friend to his father. He joins an engineering college near Tiruchi and parts from his family. There he takes part in cultural activities and develops his guitar skills. When he is on a train back home after completion of college, he meets Meghna (Sameera Reddy) who is doing Engineering in Regional College of Engineering,Tiruchirapalli. Instantly smitten by her, soon proposes to her. She rejects him, saying that they have known each other for a very short period and it's not possible to fall in love without taking time to understand him. Surya then tells her that wherever she goes, he will find her. Surya is disturbed constantly by Meghna's thoughts and consequently ends up going to her house. There she reveals him that she is going to University of California, Berkeley in a week to pursue higher education. Then, Surya bids adieu to her. After that, Krishnan, Surya's father, gets his first mild heart attack and is admitted to a hospital. A few months later, Surya goes to the United States, with the acceptance of his father, and meets Meghna in San Francisco. Though shocked by his presence, Meghna feels relieved to find someone she knows in California. They have the time of their lives there. Meghna is convinced that he is the right person and that he will be accepted by her father. Their happiness does not last long when she goes to Oklahoma City for a project. Surya joins her later traveling by the Greyhound bus. When he reaches there, he witnesses the Oklahoma City bombing and realizes that Meghna is amongst those injured. She dies on her way to the hospital. He meets Shankar Menon at the airport who tries to console him with words and offers him encouragement. A heartbroken Surya returns to India. Surya still cannot take the situation. He starts hanging out with his friends to get over his loss. He meets Priya, his sister's friend. However, the thoughts of losing Meghna still haunts him, and he resorts to taking drugs. Surya's parents try to get him to break the habit by locking him up in his room and removing him from all external contact. Once they detect his withdrawal symptoms, they ask him to take a long break to rejuvenate himself. Subsequently, he takes a leisure trip to Kashmir. There he learns that Aditya, the son of Shankar Menon, the person who inspired him in the airport was kidnapped. He visits them in Delhi. On seeing the lethargic attitude of the police, he takes matters into his own hands and goes in search of the kidnappers. After days of roaming streets and gathering information, he locates the kidnapper (Babloo Prithveeraj) and the place where Aditya is kept. He battles the kidnappers single-handedly, overpowers them and rescues Aditya. Back home, Surya starts to go out with Priya. One day Priya proposes to him, but he does not respond. Surya decides that the only way to forget the pain in his body is to prepare it for bigger things. He goes on a strict workout training and joins the army. After six years, Priya comes to the Indian Military Academy where he is posted to meet him and proposes again; this time he accepts. They marry and have a son. Suddenly Krishnan is diagnosed with throat cancer and is operated on. After some days Surya is called upon to go on a mission to rescue a journalist which brings the scene back to the present day. After completing the military mission with the help of a masked man (Gautham Menon) who tells them where the culprits were, Surya returns home to see his dead father. Surya, his sister Shriya, Malini and Priya let go his father's ashes in the sea and Malini relates her husband's life to Surya by uttering a verse from a prayer. The film ends on a happy note as the four walk away smiling; conveying the message that "Whatever happens, Life has to go on." Harris Jayaraj has rendered a beautiful set of songs with this film. The Background score is good in patches and compliments the brilliant cinematography by Rathnavelu. The cinematographer needs special mention for a refreshing tone which he has infused especially in the youthful sequences. One gets the feeling Gautham could have used all of Suriya's efforts with a better narration AND with all-round emotions to connect all the incidents in the script which would have made it more interesting. In the mid to late 1990s, the Internet was quickly becoming a technological advancement that would change people's lives in so many ways.
You'be got mail is charming film about romance in the digital age. What is very impressive about "You've Got Mail" is that it tries its hardest to make the movie as realistic as possible, whilst also keeping a touch of a fairy tale fantasy about it. From the use of email as a form of communication, to the modern day threat of mega-stores destroying the more traditional shop, the movie really is influenced by many elements of every day life. You've Got Mail stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as two competing bookstore owners named, respectively, Joe Fox and Kathleen Kelly. He runs Joe & Sons, a bookstore that he hopes will grow into a huge bookstore chain. She runs The Shop Around the Corner, a small independent children's bookstore. Joe and Kathleen dislike each other because they're business competitors. Yet, when they go home to check their e-mail, they spend time sending messages to their pen pals, not realizing they're chatting with each other. It is rather funny to see these two characters act so nicely to each other online but attempt to outdoor each other in their business. They are best of friends online, chatting anonymously across the internet and helping each other out, to the extent that despite both being in relationships they are falling in love with each other. Anyway, the whole movie is a series of events with the face-to-face business competition and the online romance. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan at their best. Tom Hanks gave a fabulous performance - understated, real, and believable. The plot is very relevant to modern day life, which when paired up with two of Hollywood's most popular performers makes for an overall enjoyable viewing experience. I think fans of romantic comedy are likely to enjoy this movie. You might as well call it "You've Got Charm." |
